When Tara graduated from Clontarf Beach State High School in 2014, she wasn't yet certain which career she wanted to pursue. What she did know was that she had a strong interest in criminology—a passion that would shape an inspiring career dedicated to supporting young people and families.
After leaving Clontarf Beach SHS, Tara completed a Bachelor of Criminology and Justice at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) before furthering her studies with a Graduate Certificate in Domestic Violence at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
Her career has included roles with Family and Child Connect (Mercy Community), Micah Projects, and the Centre Against Domestic Abuse, where she gained extensive experience supporting vulnerable individuals and families across Queensland.
Today, Tara works as a Support Officer with the Queensland Police Service's Youth Co-Responder team, where she works alongside young people and their families to reduce the risk of offending and victimisation. By connecting families with the right services and advocating for their individual needs, Tara is helping create safer and stronger communities.
Looking back on her time at Clontarf Beach SHS, Tara credits Legal Studies with sparking her interest in the justice system, while practical subjects such as Food Studies and Early Childhood provided valuable life skills she continues to use today. Beyond the classroom, she enjoyed being involved in sound and lighting, Variety Night and school musicals, and fondly remembers the encouragement and guidance she received from her teachers—particularly Mr Duus, who challenged and supported her throughout her schooling.
Reflecting on her journey, Tara encourages current students to embrace their interests and remain open to where they may lead.
"Follow your interests and passions. Don't do something just because everyone else is. Life is rich when you follow what genuinely interests you."
