Janna Hyrapietian

Acting Principal at Forrest Beach State School near Ingham Northern Queensland
CBSHS 2005 to 2009
One of the youngest principals appointed in Education Queensland, Janna Hyrapietian former student of CBSHS (2005 – 2009), became a principal at 22 years of age.
Janna knew from a young age that she wanted to work in education and knew what sort of educator she wanted to be, it is therefore no surprise that the single thing that had the biggest impact on her during her time at CBSHS were her teachers.  Janna is grateful for the time and energy they dedicated into helping her academically and for challenging her to be better and do better.
Janna still has a love for learning that was fostered in her formative years and she now sees herself as a lifelong learner who will continue with post graduate study and a hopefully a future role mentoring beginner teachers.
During school Janna particularly enjoyed English and feels the subject prepared her for her further studies. She also credits Drama in helping her become a confident and outspoken leader and BCT (now called Business Management) with giving her the skills to deal with the finance and accountability of running a school.
Janna enjoyed some of the vast array of extra curricula opportunities available at CBSHS and says some of the best experiences she had were things that took her out of her comfort zone such as taking part in musicals, leadership camp and playing in the school band.  Participating in these activities helped give her a great idea of what the world had to offer.  Her proudest moment of her school days was graduating high school and she still has fond memories of spending time in the physics labs completing and designing experiments with her classmates.
If she had her time at CBSHS again Janna says she would learn to be smarter about time management and study/ work/ life balance.  Her message for today’s students is ‘Don't be afraid to be who you are and to go out and achieve what you want. You can do it!’
